Vastu Compliance: General Home Considerations

Where should be the place of wash basin and sink in the house? Where should be the temple? How we can stop wasting money and improve health and prosperity?
Madhu Sharma, December 10, 2006

Wash basin should keep out of corners of the house. Temple in north east is advised. If you want Vastu benefits, you must commit to building a fully compliant Vastu structure to live in.

Hello Ji, We are planning to buy a home. The front door is facing towards South-West direction. I know that East facing is the best but how about South-West? Can you please answer?
Vasnadimpalli. December 12, 2006

House facing southwest is not advised. Rotation of the house will inhibit energy. Diagonal directions are not accepted in Vastu.

Is it acceptable if the kitchen is in North-West and the stove facing towards North. The house is facing East and have entrance towards North-East. Master bedroom is in South-East with attached bathroom and second bedroom is in South-West side. Could you please suggest.

Kitchen can be in northwest as a secondary location, but cook should face east. Entrance toward NE is not correct. Master bed in SE is not correct, if you can not shift to SW then move bed out of SE corner as far as possible.

We are planning to shift upstairs and rent out the lower portion of the house. The new layout is as follows- Kitchen and dining as one room in the south east, a study room next to the dining room, living room in the north east, main entrance in the north west (which is the corner of the house) master bedroom in south west and toilet in north west. The stairs leading to the house face west. Is this ok according to Vastu? My husband had a bypass surgery a month back and I am nervous about doing the wrong thing.

In general it is sort of ok, but also, this type of existing house is usually NOT compliant enough for Vastu effects to be good. Cook facing east, sleep with top of head to east or south.

Hi, Year back we bought a house, main door is facing SE & kitchen in in SE. Master-bed is in N position, workplace is in SW position. We are facing problems, so I want to know is it a good house?

In general, the influence of a building orientation with proper entrance location is as follows: East: physical comfort and mental peace, South: salvation, redemption, freedom from earthly worries, moksha. (However, south oriented entrance is not the most recommended for householders who favor material prosperity) West: material prosperity (big numbers), North: general prosperity. Kitchen should be in SE, Master Bedroom in SW, Center of house should be free and clear of walls for Brahmastan, Puja Room in NE. Entrance should be auspiciously located. Toilets need to be off centerlines and out of corners and ideally, not within the geometry of the mandala of the house. That is the basic, but there is much more to consider.

1.We have internal staircase in the North-east corner. Can you please let me know any remedies for this. 2.We have Pooja room under stair case but pooja room roof and internal stair case they both do not touch each other, there is 2 feet gap between two wall. Can you please let me know, this is right position. for the pooja room and stair case.

Stairs are best kept outside the main mandala of the house. They are not well located if they are in the NE corner. No remedy except to remove the stair and remodel the house. Since your house is probably not Vastu compliant in many ways, moving the stairs may not be worth the effort and expense.

Is there a remedy to each Vastu Dosha in a house? I am buying a property which is suiting to all my requirements but is not Vastu compliant. Please suggest how should I go about to reduce the ill-effects of my house.

Vastu science in not focused on remedy. The point is you follow the principles from the beginning. The fathers of this knowledge did not mean for it to be used to fix mis-built buildings. It is a map on how to create a building that vibrates with Universal Energy. The basics are Orientation, Auspicious Entry, Room location, Brahmastan (sacred center, and Sacred Dimensions and Geometry. Everytime you enter your house you activate a presiding energy in relationship to the mandala of the house at that point. A door must be precisely located for activation of most beneficial energy.

See www.vastu-design.com/india_homes.htm for some examples of Vastu designs. There is no reliable text on rectification. To practice rectification one must be a fully trained Vastu architect and know how to apply the important principles in a way that could be effective. It's all experimental. It's not in the ancient texts.

While designing a residence which thing must be considered?

The house needs to be in a particular alignment with north/south/east/west. It should not be more than 10 degrees off this alignment and if rotated, it must be in the proper direction. For a south and north facing house, clockwise direction is allowed. For an east and west facing house, counter-clockwise is allowed. The main idea of a Vastu structure is to resonate with earth and cosmic energies. One of the criteria for setting up this resonance is alignment with N,S, E, W. We do rotate the structure but ideally only a few degrees. I would say that a structure that is turned more than 10 degrees, has less and less accessibility to the available energies so you loose that opportunity. It would be negative in that you loose the opportunity of the brightening of mind and heart and fortune that becomes available in the correctly positioned structure. The Vastu structures are founded on a Vastu Purusha Mandala. This mandala is an energy pattern for the seed form of all matter. It maps out the structure the universe: subatomic to macroscopic. When we apply the mandala to a structure and orient it properly with respect to the cardinal points of the compass the structure becomes resonant with the earth and cosmic energy matrix. This is why these structures offer so much: they are tuning forks to cosmic energy and enhance human resonance with that energy.
